Steelers acquire CB Justin Gilbert from Browns in trade

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns are odd partners for collaboration, but the AFC North rivals agreed to a trade on Saturday.

The Browns dealt cornerback Justin Gilbert to the Steelers in exchange for a sixth-round pick in 2018.

Gilbert, the No. 8 overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft, started just three games in two seasons for the Browns amid injuries and criticism on his work ethic and attitude from coaches and teammates. Cleveland traded another first round pick, linebacker Barkevious Mingo, to the New England Patriots this week.

Quarterback Johnny Manziel, who was the Browns' other first-round pick in 2014, was waived in March.

Gilbert joins a Steelers secondary looking to improve upon last year's results after the defense ranked 30th in passing yards allowed.
