Report: Texans' J.J. Watt undergoes back surgery
J.J. Watt won’t be healthy to start training camp.
The Houston Texans' star defensive end underwent back surgery this week and will start training camp on the physically unable to perform list, reports John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.
The Texans hope to have Watt available by the start of the 2016 season — a home game Sept. 11 against the Chicago Bears — according to the report.
Watt is coming off a groin injury he suffered in the Texans’ 30-0 AFC wild-card playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
The two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year has never missed a regular-season game in his five seasons.
