The Atlanta Falcons have offered their head coaching position to Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.
The 38-year-old Smith, a Memphis native, has spent the last two years as the Titans’ play caller.
The Falcons went 4-12 this season and fired coach Dan Quinn after an 0-5 start. Defensive coordinator Raheem Morris took over as interim head coach and went 4-7 to close out the season.
The Falcons interviewed a wide range of candidates including Morris, Smith, Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and Panthers offensive coordinator Joe Brady before settling on Smith.
ESPN first reported news of Atlanta’s offer to Smith.
