Tennessee Titans releasing Pro Bowl left guard Rodger Saffold
Roster cuts for the Tennessee Titans are well underway.
After releasing backup offensive tackle Kendall Lamm earlier Thursday, the Titans are also cutting starting left guard Rodger Saffold, a person with direct knowledge of the move confirmed to the Paste BN Network. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity as the team has not announced the release.
Saffold, 33, started in 46 games for the Titans over the last three years. He played in the Pro Bowl last season as an injury replacement.
Tennessee signed Saffold as a free agent in 2019 after nine years with the Rams, who selected him in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft.
Saffold's release saves $10.4 million against the cap for the Titans, who have limited cap space. With the release of Saffold and Lamm (saved $3.1 million) on the books, Tennessee is currently $3.7 million under the 2022 salary cap, according to Over The Cap, which hasn't yet accounted for Harold Landry's multi-year contract. Landry signed a five-year deal worth $87.5 million that includes $52.5 million guaranteed with the Titans earlier this week.

The team is expected to continue making changes on the offensive line, which struggled in pass protection last season. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill was sacked 47 times, second most in the NFL.
Lamm and Saffold are now gone, but longtime left tackle Taylor Lewan is also a cap casualty candidate. Center Ben Jones and right tackle David Quessenberry are set to hit unrestricted and restricted free agency, respectively.
ESPN first reported Saffold's release.
