Tennessee Titans clinch No. 1 pick in 2025 NFL Draft with loss to Texans, Patriots win

The Tennessee Titans secured the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft on Sunday with their loss to the Houston Texans and the New England Patriots' win over Buffalo.

Tennessee lost 23-14 to a Houston team comprising mostly of backups, and finished 3-14 in Brian Callahan's first season as head coach.

The Titans needed New England (4-13) to win to move up to No. 1, otherwise the Patriots would have been ahead of the Titans in the draft order via strength of schedule tiebreaker if the teams had the same record. Tennessee's strength of schedule is worse than that of the Giants and Browns, both of them also 3-14, allowing the Titans to be ahead of both of them.

The Titans will have to make decisions on Callahan's future, as well as that of front office executives Ran Carthon and Chad Brinker before focusing on the offseason.

That offseason now includes the top pick in the draft and a chance to pick a quarterback or another franchise-building block, should the Titans elect not to trade the selection.

Top 2025 quarterback prospects include Miami's Cam Ward and Colorado's Shedeur Sanders.
