Vikings quarterback Matt Cassel out for the season
It appears it'll be the Teddy Bridgewater show the rest of the season for the Minnesota Vikings.
The team put quarterback Matt Cassel on season-ending injured reserve Wednesday because of the bones he broke in his left foot during last weekend's loss at New Orleans.
That means Bridgewater – the rookie first-round pick from Louisville who will make his first NFL start in Sunday's home game against the Atlanta Falcons – will be the man for the next 13 weeks, provided he can stay healthy.
Former first-round pick Christian Ponder slides into the No. 2 role. The Vikings signed McLeod Bethel-Thompson to the practice squad as a No. 3 option.
The Vikings also put right guard Brandon Fusco on injured reserve with a shoulder injury, just weeks after signing him to a five-year contract extension.
It's been a rough season already for the Vikings, who lost tight end Kyle Rudolph for a while to sports hernia surgery after Sunday's loss and placed running back Adrian Peterson on the exempt list last week after he was indicted in Texas on a charge of injury to a child.
To replace Fusco on the active roster, the Vikings signed tight end Chase Ford off their practice squad.
