Vikings DT Tom Johnson's agent calls charges baseless
The agent for Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle Tom Johnson says his client is innocent and he is contemplating legal action against the Minneapolis police officers who arrested Johnson on two misdemeanor charges early Sunday.
"We are aware of the events of October 5th," agent Bardia Ghahremani said in a statement issued to Paste BN Sports late Sunday. "After speaking with Tom Johnson and gathering facts, we are confident the charges are baseless and he will be exonerated. Upon clearing Mr. Johnson's name, we will move forward with the appropriate legal action."
Hennepin County online jail records show Johnson was arrested by Minneapolis police early Sunday and released hours later on $78 bail. Johnson, 30, was charged with one count of disorderly conduct and one count of trespassing, both misdemeanors. He is due in court Oct. 17.
Details on what prompted the arrest weren't immediately available. Vikings spokesman Bob Hagan says the team is investigating and will have additional comment when appropriate.
Johnson's phone number is not listed and it's not clear if he has an attorney. Jail records show Johnson was given a "tab charge," which is a charge issued by the arresting officer and filed with the court. They are often used in misdemeanor cases.
It's Johnson's first season with the Vikings after three years with New Orleans.
