Adrian Peterson, Vikings chew up Lions

DETROIT – Adrian Peterson might not have felt like his normal self upon arriving in town, but in the end Matthew Stafford looked like the sickest person at Ford Field.

Stafford had a brutal day at the office, sacked seven times by the Vikings defense as Minnesota overcame an early 11-point deficit to bury the Lions, 28-19.

Peterson suspects that it was “bad shrimp” that caused him to become ill during the team’s flight from Minnesota on Saturday, and vehemently denied reports that he had swallowed chewing tobacco. In any event, there were no apparent lingering effects from that episode.

Although he was kept in check for much of the game, Peterson finished with 98 yards on 19 carries – the bulk of the total coming on a 75-yard jaunt in the third quarter that set up a field goal.

Nonetheless, he had plenty of help. Teddy Bridgewater avoided big mistakes. Rookie receiver Stefon Diggs hauled in a 36-yard touchdown. And the defense helped swing the momentum by putting the heat on Stafford, after Detroit raced to a 14-3 lead.

In addition to the sacks, the Vikings came through with a goal-line stand late in the fourth quarter – stopping four consecutive plays from the 1-yard line – to extinguish any hopes for a Detroit comeback.

The Vikings improved to 4-2, while the Lions head to London at 1-6.
