Andre Smith agrees to one-year contract with Vikings

The group blocking for Teddy Bridgewater and Adrian Peterson will look a whole lot different in 2016.

The Minnesota Vikings agreed Thursday to a one-year deal with former Cincinnati Bengals tackle Andre Smith, who announced the deal on Twitter.

Smith, 29, is guaranteed $1 million and can make up to $4.5 million, according to a person with knowledge of the pact, speaking on condition of anonymity because financial details were to remain private.

It’s the latest offensive line addition for the Vikings, who signed former San Francisco 49ers guard Alex Boone to a four-year, $26.8 million contract last week. They also have a new offensive line coach, Tony Sparano.

Smith figures to compete at right tackle with veteran Phil Loadholt, who took a pay cut with no guarantees after missing last season with an Achilles injury. Boone likely will play left guard, allowing Brandon Fusco to move back to right guard, where he played his best football. Center John Sullivan, who missed all of last season while undergoing multiple back surgeries, is on track to return to action as well.

Smith spent seven seasons with the Bengals. He’s the latest player to reunite with Vikings coach Mike Zimmer, Cincinnati’s former defensive coordinator, joining cornerback Terence Newman and linebacker Emmanuel Lamur.
