Finalists announced for NHL rookie award
Brendan Gallagher, Jonathan Huberdeau and Brandon Saad were named finalists for the Calder Trophy as top NHL rookie.
Montreal Canadiens forward Gallagher finished with 15 goals, second among rookies, and 28 points, which ranked fourth. He also had a plus 10 rating and three game-winning goals and tied for second with 117 shots.
Florida Panthers forward Jonathan Huberdeau tied with Edmonton Oilers rookie Nail Yakupov atop the NHL with 31 points. He led rookie forwards with 16:55 in ice time but had a minus 14 rating on the league's worst team.
Chicago Blackhawks forward Saad was second among rookie forwards at 16:27 a game and had 10 goals and 17 assists. Playing on a line with Jonathan Toews, he had a rookie-best plus-17 rating, one short-handed goal and two game-winners.
Members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association vote on the Calder Trophy.
Because of the lockout, the NHL is forgoing its annual Las Vegas awards show. Winners will be announced during the Stanley Cup Final at a date to be determined.
