Bruins player knocks two Canadiens out of the game
Boston Bruins defenseman Kevan Miller had a particularly destructive shift on Monday night as he took two Montreal Canadiens players out of the game during the first period.
He cross-checked Dale Weise, causing him to crash hard into the boards.
As Weise lay on the ice, Travis Moen challenged Miller to a fight. They dropped the gloves as Weise skated, hunched over, to the bench.
Miller knocked Moen down immediately with a punch but Moen got up, and at one point got Miller to stumble. Miller stood up and dazed Moen with a big right.
Moen had to be helped off the ice by a teammate and trainer. The Canadiens announced during the second period that Weise and Moen weren't returning to the game.
The Canadiens said Tuesday that Moen would miss a week with a concussion. Weise is out two to three weeks with an upper-body injury.
Miller was called for cross-checking and fighting.
"I hope he's all right — both those guys," Miller told reporters after the Bruins fell 2-1 in a shootout to end their 12-game winning streak. "To be honest with you about the hit, I felt bad about it. I just kind of bumped into (Weise). I think he was a little off balance. I stood there just trying to make sure he was OK for a second, and Moen asked if I wanted to go. I just hope they're both OK."
