Kings' Jordan Nolan suspended two games for boarding

The Los Angeles Kings will be without forward Jordan Nolan for Sunday's game and the final game of their trip after he was suspended by the league.

The NHL's department of player safety suspended him for two games for a Friday boarding incident against the Detroit Red Wings' Darren Helm.

Nolan had circled back to check Helm after the Red Wings forward kept the puck in the zone along the boards.

"From the moment he changes directions and while tracking Helm for some distance, Nolan sees nothing but Helm's numbers," the NHL's Patrick Burke said in a video.

Nolan, who was suspended one game for sucker punching Edmonton's Jesse Joensuu in March, is considered a repeat offender. He also was fined in 2012-13 for cross-checking.

Nolan will forfeit $17,073.18 in pay and also miss the Kings' game in Dallas on Tuesday.

The energy-line player will be absent as Kings star Anze Kopitar is expected to return from a three-game injury absence.

Nolan's suspension is the league's fourth in a week after a suspension-free preseason and opening of the season.

A fifth one is expected on Sunday afternoon because Nashville Predators defenseman Anton Volchenkov has a hearing for an elbowing infraction against Calgary Flames forward Michael Ferland.
