LA Kings defenseman Robyn Regehr says he is retiring

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Kings defenseman Robyn Regehr said he intends to retire after a 15-year NHL career.

Regehr made the announcement in the dressing room Saturday after the defending Stanley Cup champions' season ended with a 4-1 victory against the San Jose Sharks.

Regehr turns 35 next week. He spent his first 11 seasons with the Calgary Flames before joining the Kings for the past 2 1/2 years, playing a major role on Los Angeles' standout defense.

Regehr won a Stanley Cup ring with the Kings last summer despite appearing in only the first eight playoff games, missing time with a knee injury.

Regehr played for Canada at the 2006 Olympics and two world championships.

He had three goals and 10 assists in 67 games this season.
