Zamboni damages ice, causes delay for Red Wings vs. Islanders
This is something you don't see every day.
The Detroit Red Wings-New York Islanders game at Joe Louis Arena was delayed for 36 minutes because the Zamboni caught a mooring from the net and dragged it from about the goal line to the blue line, gouging a hole in the ice.
The incident occurred during the second intermission with the Red Wings leading 4-0. To repair the long divot, the crew plugged new ice into the portion that was gashed away and let it refreeze.
After captains Henrik Zetterberg (Red Wings) and John Tavares (Islanders) approved the fixes, it was determined that the teams would switch sides after the 10-minute mark of the third period.
Red Wings forward Dylan Larkin scored less than three minutes into the frame. Detroit won 5-1.
