Dan Boyle curses out reporters at Rangers' break-up day

Dan Boyle’s tenure with the New York Rangers was marked by disappointment after the organization doled out a two-year contract to a then-37-year-old defenseman in 2014.

But he might be remembered most for his pointed outburst Tuesday directed toward New York Post  reporters Larry Brooks and Brett Cyrgalis.

At the team’s final meeting with the media after being ousted in five games by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Boyle said he would not start his interview until they left the room. Only Brooks was there. Cyrgalis did not attend break-up day, but that didn't seem to matter to Boyle.

Puck Daddy’s Greg Wyshinski was present for the exchange.

BOYLE: “I don’t want him here."

BROOKS: “What? You know, the feeling’s mutual, man.”

BOYLE: “Nobody likes you. Nobody respects you. Just so you know."

BROOKS: "OK."

BOYLE: “At least I’m leaving here with the respect of my teammates. ... I have no respect for you. I want you to get the [expletive] out.”

BROOKS: “I don’t care what you think."

BOYLE: "I can tell you to get the [expletive] out if I want to!"

BROOKS: “You can, but I don’t have to listen to you."

BOYLE: “Yeah, ya do! I want him out. And that other [expletive] clown, Brett, or whatever the [expletive] his name is. Everyone else is fine. I want him out. It’s my right.”

According to Sean Hartnett of WFAN.com, Brooks eventually left the room.

The New York Post has been critical of Boyle since he was signed July 1, 2014. After the Rangers were eliminated, Cyrgalis wrote a story that contained the headline, "Dan Boyle's failed Rangers stint likely ends fittingly." In it, he said, "Though his tenure with the Rangers was a disappointment, this is an inglorious way to bow out."

Boyle had 19 goals and 44 points in 139 regular-season games with the Rangers. Though he hasn't announced a decision, he said he is leaning toward retiring for family reasons.
