Penguins' Ian Cole: Showtime's 'Quest for the Cup' is no 'Bachelorette'

SAN JOSE --- Penguins defenseman Ian Cole has one of the better one-liners in the latest episode of Showtime’s ALL ACCESS: Quest For The Stanley Cup, which debuts at 9 p.m. on Friday.

“We will play until 2 in the morning,” Cole could be heard as the documentary crew captured the moments before Wednesday’s overtime in Game 2. “I have nothing to do tonight.”

Conor Sheary scored the game-winner less than three minutes into overtime for a 2-1 Penguins victory to take a 2-0 series lead over the San Jose. The crew documented Sheary receiving the “Warrior Helmet” for his efforts.

Cole praised the crew that has nearly unfettered access ahead of Saturday’s Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final.

“They do a really good job of not getting in the way,” Cole told Paste BN Sports on Friday. “They stay in the background and try to make this organic. When you understand that and see how non-intrusive they have been, you understand why they are the best in the business at what they do.”

This is reality TV, but it’s not like other shows in the genre.

“They aren’t saying, ‘Go back and walk through that door again,’” Cole said.

So, this isn’t like ABC’s Bachelorette?

“’Hey, present that rose five more times,’” Cole quipped. “It’s none of that. You are aware they are here. There’s a camera and boom mic there, but they’re awesome guys.”
