Stanley Cup Game 5 ticket prices have spiked on secondary market

SAN JOSE — It’s been more than 55 years since a major sports franchise in Pittsburgh has clinched a title in the Steel City.

The Pittsburgh Penguins could change that in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final at Consol Energy Center on Thursday — and prices have spiked in response on the secondary ticket market.

The Pens beat the San Jose Sharks, 3-1, at SAP Center on Monday night to grasp a 3-1 lead in the series. Over the next 12 hours, the average price for a jumped 52% to $1,114, according to ticket aggregator SeatGeek.

“It’s exciting we got a win here,” said forward Eric Fehr, who scored the final goal in Game 4. “We knew it wasn’t going to be easy. Now, we go back home and try to win one in front of our fans. It’s exciting for us, but we know they’re a good team and they are not going to go down easy.”

The Pens have won the Cup three previous times, but never on home ice. The 1960 Pirates were the last Pittsburgh team to clinch a tittle at home, beating the New York Yankees in seven games at Forbes Field.

The average price as of Tuesday morning was also about four times higher than what seats went for in Game 1, which average $289 per seat.

The two games here at SAP Center were also pricey, averaging about $860 on the secondary market, according to SeatGeek statistics.
