NHL free agency 2016: Five good player-team fits
With free agency starting Friday at noon ET, here are five good fits for NHL teams and players:
Defenseman Brian Campbell, Chicago Blackhawks: At 37, Campbell is still playing at a high level and the Blackhawks need another veteran defenseman. He would have a shot at winning a Stanley Cup if he signs with Chicago.
Right wing Loui Eriksson, New York Islanders: Eriksson would score 30-plus goals playing with center John Tavares. The Islanders must add scoring.
Left wing Milan Lucic, Edmonton Oilers: He can protect Connor McDavid and score 20 goals. Lucic would give the Oilers more courage. He could mentor the young Oilers.
Right wing Troy Brouwer, Detroit Red Wings: The Red Wings' objective is to have toughness and grit on every line. Brouwer can score 20 goals and provide a physical presence. Justin Abdelkader can play on one line, and Brouwer on another.
Defenseman Kris Russell, Boston Bruins: He’s not the complete answer to the Bruins' desire to upgrade their defense, but he could give the defensive unit a boost with his shot-blocking.
