Reports: Former Capitals GM George McPhee will guide Las Vegas team
George McPhee will be named the general manager of Las Vegas' NHL expansion team, ESPN and the Las Vegas Review-Journal both reported.
The team is holding a press conference at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday and is expected to announce the move.
McPhee was a longtime executive with the Washington Capitals, holding the GM position from 1997 until 2014. During that time, the Capitals collected seven division championships, a Presidents' Trophy and, in 1998, won the Eastern Conference.
The 58-year-old spent last season working as a special assistant to New York Islanders general manager Garth Snow.
