Riley Sheahan scores first goal, avoids the wrong kind of NHL history

DETROIT — Riley Sheahan avoided dubious hockey immortality when he scored his first goal of the season in the Detroit Red Wings’ last game at Joe Louis Arena.
Sheahan was trying to avoid becoming the only forward in NHL history to record at least 100 shots and not score a goal.
Coincidently, Sheahan’s last goal had come in the final game of the 2015-16 season.
Sheahan’s goal, on a snap shot from the high slot, gave Detroit a 1-0 lead at 7:09 of the first period against the New Jersey Devils.
"He's been trying to bring other elements to our team this season," Red Wings general manager Ken Holland told Paste BN Sports prior to the game. "He's a big man down the middle. He can protect the puck down low."
Sheahan entered the season finale with no goals on 106 shots and 11 assists in 79 games.
