Ken Hitchcock is back with the Dallas Stars, according to multiple published reports on Wednesday.
Hitchcock, who was fired in February by the St Louis Blues in his sixth season with the club, coached the Stars from 1995-2002. He led the Stars to their — and his — only Stanley Cup title in 1999. The Dallas Morning News was the first to report Hitchcock’s hire.
The Stars announced Sunday that Lindy Ruff, whose contract ran through the end of the regular season, would not be retained. The Stars finished with 79 points and a 34-37-11 record.
The 65-year-old Hitchcock has coached in 20 seasons overall, which has also included stops with the Philadelphia Flyers and Columbus Blue Jackets. In 1,454 games, he has a 781-474-88-111 record.
