Bruce Cassidy had the interim tag removed from his title as the Boston Bruins announced on Monday he’ll be back with the team as head coach next season.
Cassidy was brought up from Boston’s AHL affiliate to take over for Claude Julien, who was fired, on Feb. 7. The Bruins were in ninth place in the East, a spot out of playoff contention.
The Bruins finished the regular season 18-8-1 and finished in seventh place. Boston was eliminated by the Ottawa Senators in the opening round of the playoffs in six games.
