Wednesday night’s Game 7 between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals, in which the defending champion Penguins won 2-0 to advance to the Eastern Conference finals, was the most live-streamed NHL game ever — surpassing all Stanley Cup final games — NBC Sports said Thursday.

The game delivered a total of 15.3 million live minutes (+119%), an average minute audience of 88.3K (+111%), and 213K unique devices (+88%). That’s the most live minutes and largest average-minute audience ever, according to NBC.

It also drew the third-highest overnight cable audience for a second-round playoff game with a 2.04 metered market rating.

The Edmonton Oilers vs. Anaheim Ducks game posted a 1.08 overnight rating and stands as the best ever late-night game with a Canadian team for any round. Between both games, it was NBC Sports Digital’s most-streamed NHL playoffs Round 2 ever.

The first year of comprehensive live streaming began in 2013.
