It's probably too early to declare an NHL goal of the year, but Washington Capitals defenseman Dmitry Orlov has a strong candidate to stand the test of time.

Heading into the Dallas zone with speed in the second period Tuesday night, he undressed Stars defenseman John Klingberg by putting the puck between his own legs, then blew past him, went backhand to forehand and roofed a shot past Ben Bishop to tie the game 2-2.

His teammates on the bench looked up at the scoreboard replay in amazement as Orlov gave a big smile.

"I was a little bit tired, but I tried to make a move," he said in a between-periods TV interview.

A little bit of an understatement there.

“I was like everybody else, holy you-know-what,” Capitals coach Barry Trotz said postgame. “That one had the wow factor.”

The Capitals beat the Stars 4-3 in overtime on a goal by Andre Burakovsky.
