Former women's hockey star AJ Mleczko back in TV booth for NHL playoffs second round
AJ Mleczko, the first woman to work as an in-booth analyst for an NHL playoff game, is tentatively scheduled to work again for NBC in the second round.
Sam Flood, executive producer and president of production for NBC and NBC Sports Network, told Paste BN Sports that, depending upon how the schedule works out, the plan calls for Mleczko to work Game 2 in Nashville for the series with Winnipeg.
“I think she has done a good job of understanding what can and has happened,” Flood said. "People like her as a teammate which is an important part.”
Mleczko, 42, was a forward on the gold-medal winning 1998 U.S. Women’s Olympic hockey team and has been working for NBC on women’s Olympic telecasts since 2006.

She made history in the first round when she worked one of the games in the Colorado-Nashville series.
“When it comes to commentary, it’s about learning when to get in and out. I think the hardest part of the game is to know when to speak and when to back off,” Flood said. “I think she has done a good job of learning when the puck is in the danger zones to let the play by play take over.”
