Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin rides dolphins as part of amazing bye week

In the aftermath of winning the Stanley Cup in 2018, Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin was the ring-leader of what seemed like a non-stop party. Now a father, and in the middle of the NHL season, Ovechkin has shown this week that he still knows how to have a good time — though in perhaps a more low-key manner.

The Capitals — currently mired in a seven-game losing streak in their first season under head coach Todd Reirden — have not played since Jan. 23 and won't take the ice again until Feb. 1 due to their bye week coinciding with NHL All-Star weekend. This has afforded their players plenty of time to get away, including Ovechkin, who skipped the All-Star festivities for more time off. While Ovechkin faces a one-game suspension for his decision, he seems to be taking plenty of advantage of his extra time away from the ice.

His latest adventures with his family in an unspecified tropical locale have been documented by his wife, Nastya, on Instagram. And it's been incredible.

Ovechkin hit the dance floor in style.

And ... he rode dolphins?!?

Like, seriously used a dolphin as a mode of transportation.

While the decision to skip the All-Star Game has drawn criticism in some circles, Ovechkin is once again producing at a high clip. He leads the league with 37 goals — eclipsing the 30-goal plateau for the 14th time in as many seasons — while leading his team with 57 total points. He's appeared in all 50 games for the 27-17-6 Capitals, who find themselves in second place in the Metropolitan Division at the break.

It certainly seems like Ovechkin is having a relaxing week away to gear up for the stretch run and possible repeat bid.
