Coyotes captain Oliver Ekman-Larsson needed stitches after being attacked by family dog this summer

If there is one thing Coyotes fans are hoping for this season, it's better luck with injuries.

They aren't off to a very good start.

Coyotes captain Oliver Ekman-Larsson was briefly hospitalized in Sweden following an incident where he was bitten in the hand by a family dog and required four stitches.

First reported by the Swedish publication Kvälls Posten, Ekman-Larsson was stitched up, received a tetanus shot and was put on antibiotics.

Coyotes President of Hockey Operations and General Manager John Chayka said Ekman-Larsson is "fully healthy" after treatment, which apparently took place shortly after the conclusion of the World Championship at the end of May.

The family also put down the dog, a shepherd, that the family owned for 6-7 years, the article, translated from Swedish, said. Ekman-Larsson was quoted in the article saying there had been similar incidents involving the dog in the past.

Ekman-Larsson acknowledged the incident with a statement on Twitter.
