Who will win Monday's Game 7? Experts pick winner for Rangers-Devils finale
The last Game 7 between the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils produced one of the greatest moments in NHL history.
Though Devils fans are now cringing at the memories of "Matteau! Matteau! Matteau!" the rest of us can only hope Monday's Game 7 between the teams at New Jersey's Prudential Center (8 p.m. ET, ESPN) produces a game on the same level as that 1994 classic.
The Rangers dominated the first two games of this series in New Jersey, winning by 5-1 margins. But the Devils ripped off three straight victories after making a goalie change, with the Rangers scoring just two goals. The Broadway Blueshirts reawakened with their season on the line, winning Game 6 at Madison Square Garden 5-2 to set up Monday's winner-take-all finale.
So, who wins? Paste BN Sports' NHL experts make their picks for who will advance to face the Carolina Hurricanes in the next round of the playoffs:
Rangers 3, Devils 2. I had the Rangers winning the series, so I will stick with that. They finally solved Devils goalie Akira Schmid in the last game, and Igor Shesterkin will be the difference-maker in this game. – Mike Brehm
Rangers 5, Devils 3. The Rangers have plenty of Game 7 experience after going the distance twice in last year's playoffs. I think that experience ultimately proves to be the difference against a talented – but young – Devils team. – Jace Evans
Rangers 3, Devils 1: Perhaps the best sign for Rangers in their Game 6 win was Mika Zibanejad scoring his first goal of the playoffs. It took him until Game 6 of last year's postseason to score, too, and he ended up with 10 playoff goals. The Rangers' experience in this situation and the advantage in net give them the edge. – Jimmy Hascup
