Ben Bishop starts Game 5 for Lightning
TAMPA, Fla. -- Goalie Ben Bishop is back in net for the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight when they play Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Bishop missed part of the third period of Game 2 with an undisclosed injury, and then played through the injury to win Game 3 and then was unable to play Game 4 in Chicago. The Blackhawks won that game 2-1 to tie the series.
"There's progress being made since the beginning," Bishop said after participating in the team's Saturday morning skate.
The Lightning have offered no details about the injury, but judging by the way he moved in Game 3, it is believed to be a groin injury.
It's a NHL tradition for players to play through injuries in the playoffs, but it's a much more difficult decision for goalies because if they can't do the job effectively they can severely undermine their team's chances of winning.
"It's really a tough decision this time of the year," Bishop said. "Like I said, it's not about one person. When you get this far, you don't want to hurt the team."
