Kings agree on one-year deal with defenseman Christian Ehrhoff

The Los Angeles Kings have agreed in principle to a one-year deal with defenseman Christian Ehrhoff, the club announced via Twitter on Sunday.

Ehrhoff's agent, Rick Curran, confirmed to Paste BN Sports that the deal is worth $1.5 million.

The veteran blue-liner, ranked as our No. 2 best remaining free agent, became an unrestricted free agent this summer after spending an injury-riddled season with the Pittsburgh Penguins during which he appeared in only 49 games.

Ehrhoff, 33, is back in good health but still has had trouble getting on a team. He has tallied 40 points in three seasons during his career and is often lauded for his versatility, but his age and injury history made teams wary of bringing him into the fold early in free agency.

The Kings are a logical landing spot for the veteran, given the turmoil surrounding that position. LA defender Slava Voynov was absent from the team almost all of last season under suspension as he awaited the conclusion of a domestic battery charge filed against him, and the Kings struggled with depth on the blue line. Ehrhoff provides a nice presence for LA down low and stands to bring more leadership to the defensive corps.
