Kings goalie Jonathan Quick suffers lower-body injury against Sharks
Jonathan Quick wasn't in net to begin the second period Wednesday.
The Los Angeles Kings goalie suffered a lower-body injury and was not expected to return during the season opener against the rival San Jose Sharks, the team announced. Jeff Zatkoff assumed Quick's stead.
Jon Rosen of LA Kings Insider reported that Quick will have an MRI on Thursday.
Quick allowed one goal on 15 shots in the first period. Earlier in the game, Quick was enraged when Sharks captain Joe Pavelski crashed the net and the netminder went after him, inciting a fracas.
The former Conn Smythe winner posted a 2.22 GAA and .918 save percentage during the 2015-16 season. If he's gone for an extended period of time, the Kings will be in trouble. The team traded Martin Jones to the Sharks last season, and he shined.
Zatkoff has a 2.66 GAA and .915 save percentage in just 29 career starts.
