Lightning sign Anthony DeAngelo to entry-level contract
The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed their first-round draft pick Anthony DeAngelo to a three-year, entry level contract. Team president and general manager Steve Yzerman announced the deal Tuesday.
Defenseman DeAngelo, 19, has been skating with the Ontario Hockey League's Sarnia Sting since the 2011-12 season. He has appeared in 203 OHL games in his career, all with the Sting, and 10 OHL playoff contests.
DeAngelo has played in 22 games this season for the Sting, notching seven goals and 27 points. That puts him in first place among OHL defensemen in points, and he ranks second in number of assists (20) among blueliners.
The 5-foot-11, 173-pound New Jersey native was drafted 19th overall by the Lightning at the 2014 NHL Entry Draft in Philadelphia earlier this year. He was also named to the preliminary roster for the 2015 U.S. National Junior Team.
