Steven Stamkos exits Lightning's game with lower-body injury

Tampa Bay Lightning forward Steven Stamkos left Tuesday night's win against the Detroit Red Wings with what the team said was a "lower body injury"

The Lightning stated that Stamkos would not return to the contest.

Stamkos skated gingerly off the ice after colliding with Red Wings forward Gustav Nyquist while battling for the puck along the boards in the first period.

“He’ll be evaluated again tomorrow,” Lightning coach Jon Cooper said to The Associated Press. “It’s unfortunate that he couldn’t come back, because he was helping us before he got hurt, but it is too early to speculate on anything right now.”

The superstar captain had picked up his team-leading ninth goal of the season earlier in the game against the division-rival Red Wings. Tampa Bay would win the game in overtime, 4-3, on Nikita Kucherov's goal.
