Report: Kris Letang is out for the season

The Pittsburgh Penguins' playoff battle is going down to the last day of the season.

If they clinch, though, defenseman Kris Letang isn't likely to be part of the postseason run, even if the team goes deep, GM Jim Rutherford told DKonPittsburghSports.com.

Letang, who had been in the Norris Trophy equation, suffered a concussion on March 28 when he was checked by Arizona Coyotes captain Shane Doan and fell and hit his head into the boards.

He has had previous concussion issues, plus suffered a stroke last season.

The Penguins hold the final wild-card spot, a point behind the Ottawa Senators and one ahead of the Boston Bruins. Ottawa (at Philadelphia), Pittsburgh (at Buffalo) and Boston (at Tampa Bay) are in action on the final day of the season.
