DeMarcus Cousins will be on Team USA


Sacramento Kings center DeMarcus Cousins has a spot on the U.S. team at the Rio OIympics, a person familiar with decision told Paste BN Sports.

The person requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly until USA Basketball makes an official announcement later this month.

Cousins played on the 2014 U.S. World Cup team that won gold. He averaged 9.8 points and 5.7 rebounds in nine games and had 13 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks in the championship game against Serbia.

The needs some size at the Olympics, and Cousins provides it.

USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo said he plans to announced the 12-man roster in late June. As he considers who makes the team, some players are dropping out and some want to play. Golden State’s Steph Curry and Oklahoma City’s Russell Westbrook won’t play, but Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant said he plans to play.

Los Angeles Clippers guard Chris Paul also decided to not play, and Cleveland’s LeBron James and Kyrie Irving said they will make decisions after the Finals.

Warriors forward Draymond Green told Paste BN Sports he would play if asked.
