Major spoilers ahead for anyone who hasn’t seen Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 6 “Beyond the Wall”

It can be difficult to find humor in the face of death, but Team USA did on social media.

In Sunday’s episode of Game of Thrones (spoiler alert – we warned you) Daenerys Targaryen sees one of her children, Viserion, die at the hands of the Night King.

In an extremely ill-advised mission to capture a wight north of the Wall, Jon Snow and his suicide squad find themselves trapped on a frozen island surrounded by thousands of wights and the white walkers. As Dany and her dragons come to their rescue, the Night King launches an ice spear into Viserion’s neck – causing the majestic dragon to fall to his death in the frozen lake.

Cue the Olympic humor:

The U.S Olympic team wasn’t alone in noting the Night King’s spear-throwing prowess.

It was a good bit of comic relief in otherwise tragic circumstances. (Yes, you definitely can mourn a CGI dragon – especially one that gets dragged from the lake to become the Night King’s zombie at the end of the episode.)

And it turns out the Night King might be leading an all-star athletic team in Westeros. Already this season, we’ve learned Bronn and Jaime Lannister are Olympic-level swimmers after somehow escaping Drogon’s fire and completing an impressive – if unrealistic in full armor – swim up the river in “Eastwatch.”

In “Beyond the Wall,” we saw Jon Snow’s swimming ability as he pulled himself out of the frozen lake. And more impressively, Gendry turns out to be a champion runner after sprinting to the wall to get news of Jon Snow’s dire situation to Dany. If he doesn’t work out as a sprinter, we know he can cut it as a rower.
