Swiss freestyle halfpipe skier Joel Gisler crashes hard during Olympic qualifying

Swiss skier Joel Gisler slammed into the lip of the halfpipe as he came down from a jump in a massive crash during Tuesday's freestyle qualifications at the Winter Olympics.
The impact with the side of the halfpipe came after he got more than 10 feet over the deck as he attempted his first trick. The impact knocked Gisler off his skis and he slid to the flat of the pipe where medical responders rushed to him.
Gisler eventually got to his feet. There was no update given on his medical status.
Yuto Totsuka, a 16-year-old snowboarder from Japan, was hospitalized after a crash last week.
And Austrian Markus Schairer broke his neck during a snowboard cross quarterfinal run last week. Doctors have said he suffered no permanent damage.
