NBC wants to broaden its audience for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, particularly among young people, which is why the network has brought in “Call Her Daddy” podcast host Alex Cooper

NBC Olympics president and executive producer Molly Solomon said the network enlisted contributors with different demographic fan bases “to bring that enthusiasm and maybe a different perspective to what we’re doing."

“That’s really why we wanted to integrate pop culture into what we’re doing,” Solomon told USA Today Sports in June. “But I always want to maintain that competition is at the core of what we do.”

"Call Her Daddy" averages millions of downloads per episode, and the vast majority of the listeners are women.

“Watch with Alex Cooper” will stream on Peacock as a series of live, interactive, picture-in-picture watch parties that serve as a companion cast to the action. (Think “Manningcast” vibes without the detailed football analysis.) The show, filmed from on the ground in Paris, will also include social media reactions and guests.

“We are trying a lot of different things to make sure we elevate the Olympics and the stories, and that’s why we went for some different voices this time around,” Solomon said.

At a media event this summer, Cooper said she wants Gen-Z women to participate in the Games in a less intimidating way. She sat down for an interview with Simone Biles in which the gymnast opened up about her "twisties" experience in Tokyo in 2021.

"The chance to cheer on the world's greatest athletes at the Olympics is beyond thrilling,” Cooper said in a statement. “I am so excited to be partnering with NBC and Peacock to present this interactive watch-party format for the first time from the Olympics, designed to bring audiences even closer to the excitement of in Paris. We are going to have so much fun.”

The “Watch with Alex Cooper” show is another instance of the supplemental programming NBCUniversal adds to its streaming service during the Olympics. For example, the "Gold Zone" whip-around show will stream 10 hours of action daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET on Peacock.
