RIO DE JANEIRO — Viewers watching Kristin Armstrong win gold in the time trial cycling finals on Wednesday morning may have had a question: Is her nose bleeding?

Blood appeared to be coming out of Armstrong's nose during the first half of the race.

After the race, Armstrong said she wasn't sure what happened.

"It happened in the first 10K," she said. "I'm not sure why. I sometimes get them in dry weather, but this, I don't know."

She then gestured up at the overcast, rainy sky and shrugged.

The bloody nose didn't slow Armstrong down. She won her third consecutive gold in the event, one day before her 43rd birthday.
