RIO DE JANEIRO — Gevvie Stone won the Olympic silver medal in women's single sculls Saturday, finishing behind Australian Kimberley Brennan.
Stone of Newton, Mass., finished in 7:22.92, .62 seconds behind Brennan. China's Duan Jingli won bronze.
Stone, who is a doctor, was seventh in the event at the 2012 London Games. She won the United States' fifth medal in women's single sculls, all of which have been silver. The most recent was won by Michelle Guerette at the 2008 Beijing Games.
