Olympic swimming in Rio de Janeiro wrapped up late Saturday in historic fashion.

RIO DE JANEIRO — The American women won gold in the 4x100 medley relay Saturday night, giving the U.S. team its 1,000 medal in the Summer Olympics.
The four American swimmers — each of whom had already medaled in her respective individual event — won the medley relay, beating Australia and Denmark.
Kathleen Baker led off with backstroke, Lilly King swam the breaststroke, Dana Vollmer grabbed the lead in fly and freestyler Simone Manuel anchored.
The gold was the 1,000 won by the United States.
