Report: Fox Sports could sell online rights to 2018 World Cup
Fox has been approached by Facebook, Twitter and Snapchat's parent company, Snap, for the online rights to video highlights of the 2018 World Cup, according to a report on Thursday.
Fox paid about $425 million for the English-language U.S. television rights for next two men's World Cups along with two women's World Cups (2015 and 2019). According to Bloomberg, the social networks are offering Fox millions for the the rights to use highlights for next summer's men's World Cup in Russia.
The story cited two people familiar with the matter.
A Fox Sports spokesperson declined to comment.
According to the report, Fox has yet to decide whether it wants to sell the rights to one of the companies or break up the digital highlight package.
