Playing in its first-ever World Cup game, Iceland was considered a major underdog against Lionel Messi and Argentina on Saturday

Sergio Aguero gave Argentina the lead in the 19th minute but just four minutes later, Iceland's Alfred Finnbogason pounced on a ball in the penalty area and found the back of the net to equalize.

It was a historic moment for Iceland, which has become a fan favorite around the world since defeating England and making a Cinderella run at the 2016 European Championships in France.

The score would finish 1-1, a monumental achievement for the smallest country to ever qualify for the World Cup.

Argentina and Iceland are joined in Group D by Croatia and Nigeria. Later Saturday, Croatia defeated Nigeria, 2-0.
