France, Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris charged for driving drunk

Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris was charged with drink-driving early Friday morning in London.
Lloris, who captained France to a World Cup championship this summer, was stopped by a routine patrol in Gloucester and failed a roadside breathalyzer, according to the BBC. The 31-year-old is due in court on Sept. 11
"I wish to apologize wholeheartedly to my family, the club, my teammates, the manager and all of the supporters," Lloris said Friday. “Drink-driving is completely unacceptable, I take full responsibility for my actions and it is not the example I wish to set.”
Tottenham has started the English Premier League season with two wins and has a critical match against Manchester United on Monday.
Lloris joined Tottenham in 2012 and has played 208 league games for the team. Since 2008, Lloris has appeared 104 times for the French national team, becoming the country's first-choice captain in 2012.
