Australian TV host makes 'slavery' comment while talking about Usain Bolt

An Australian television host is facing criticism after a "slavery" comment made while talking about Usain Bolt.

Bolt, an eight-time Olympic gold medalist who holds the world record in the 100m and 200m, scored two goals in his professional soccer debut with the Australian League's Central Coast Mariners and has gained the attention of the soccer world for his performance.

On the Australian morning program "Sunrise" with co-host Samantha Armytage, Natalie Barr and Mark Beretta, the group was talking about Bolt's professional prospects with a European club that has shown interest in signing the former Jamaican sprinter.

“So the Mariners sell him for money, they make a lot of money out of it?” asked Koch.

“It’s a win-win. You keep him, great. You sell him, so be it," replied Beretta. "That’s the tough world of professional football."

“Who said slavery was over ... anyway. No,” said Koch, who stopped short of finishing his thought and stunned his fellow panelists.

As people on social media quickly criticized him, Koch took to Twitter to explain himself and defend his comments.

Bolt's fellow teammates seem to enjoy playing with him, especially Aston Villa striker Ross McCormack, who's currently on loan with the Mariners.

"The best thing about Usain is he's so humble. He's fitted in well with the lads," said McCormack. "From my first day even to where he is now, the transformation is huge."
