Mexico and Jamaica face off Wednesday night in the semifinals of the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup, with the winner earning a spot in Sunday's tournament final.
In the quarterfinals, Mexico defeated Costa Rica 2-0 and Jamaica beat Guatemala 1-0. The Mexicans won two of three to finish atop Group B, while Jamaica was second in Group A, winning two and drawing with the United States in the tournament opener.
Mexico's Orbelin Pineda and Luis Romo lead the team with two goals in four games at this Gold Cup, and Demarai Gray – who plays for Everton in the Premier League – has also scored twice for Jamaica.
Mexico has won the tournament 11 times, eight in the Gold Cup era and three times when the continental tournament was known as the CONCACAF Cup. Jamaica finished runner-up in 2015 and 2017, losing to Mexico in the 2015 final and the United States two years later.
The winner will face the United States or Panama in the final on Sunday.
