Lionel Messi: Updates on new Adidas cleats design inspired by World Cup victory

Soccer superstar Leo Messi is ready to make another splash in the soccer world. This time, it’s with his own, brand-new cleats.

On Tuesday, Adidas, Messi’s long-time partner brand, announced the newest style of cleats in collaboration with the soccer star in an Instagram post. In one day, the post has garnered over 2 million likes.

According to the post, the new shoe design was inspired by the “World Cup winning ‘Leyenda’ boot,” and there are some clear nods to Argentina’s 2022 World Cup victory.

Messi’s new boots feature curved gold stripes across the front, crisscrossed with pale blue stripes reminiscent of both the Adidas logo and the kits Argentina’s national team wore when they won the World Cup.

A black stripe runs down the back heel of both shoes. The left shoe features a golden goat (in reference to Messi’s G.O.A.T. nickname) and the “M” of Messi’s personal brand within the black stripe. The right has the Argentine virtuoso’s No. 10 emblazoned in gold at the top with a golden Adidas logo on the bottom. Both cleats have three stars signifying Argentina’s three World Cup wins within the stripe of the back heel as well.

The bottoms of both cleats are a gradient from gold to white.
