MLS Western Conference heavyweights square off in what might be the best matchup of the Leagues Cup quarterfinals.

The Seattle Sounders and Los Angeles FC both enter Saturday's quarterfinal on absolute heaters. While the Sounders have won their two knockout games by a combined score of 7-1 (including a spirited 4-0 demolition of Liga MX's Pumas), LAFC is coming off a 4-1 rout of the San Jose Earthquakes in which French soccer icon Olivier Giroud made his Los Angeles debut.

Giroud got a brief taste of live-action soccer football with his new teammates, playing for 19 minutes in front of the raucous BMO Stadium crowd. Expect to see a similar approach from coach Steve Cherundolo as France's all-time leading goal scorer gets acclimated with his new team.

These two teams have some high-stakes history against each other, having met in the MLS playoffs three times since LAFC's inaugural season in 2018, most notably the 2019 Western Conference final, won by Seattle en route to winning MLS Cup.

The winner of the Seattle Sounders-Los Angeles FC quarterfinal faces the winner of the Club America-Colorado Rapids game in the semifinals.
