  • League-leading Vancouver Whitecaps host surging LAFC on "Sunday Night Soccer."
  • Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup lacks #Cupsets, 15 of 16 MLS teams advance to Round of 16.

The 2025 Major League Soccer season is a nearly a third complete, so what better time than now to break down the top teams after two and a half months of play?

Here is a top five MLS power rankings:

  1. Vancouver Whitecaps: Supporters' Shield frontrunners and the club that is representing MLS in the Concacaf Champions Cup final after dispatching Inter Miami in an impressive semifinal rout. All of this is a surprise for a team expected to finish near the bottom of the Western Conference.
  2. Columbus Crew: Coach Wilfred Nancy has this team humming, with its only setback of the season a 1-0 loss to Inter Miami. Diego Rossi is one goal off from pacing the Golden Boot race.
  3. Philadelphia Union: After a disappointing 2024 for the Union, new coach Bradley Carnell has the team in a familiar spot … contending atop the Eastern Conference. Really had to work to get past USL Championship side Indy Eleven in the U.S. Open Cup, so will have to see if that has any effect on the squad this weekend.
  4. Inter Miami: It's been a bit rough lately for this team (see Vancouver Whitecaps), but any team with Lionel Messi on its roster (plus Luis Suárez, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba) is a championship threat. Have an interesting matchup this weekend in Minnesota against the Loons.
  5. FC Cincinnati: Last week's loss to NYCFC halted a five-game winning streak. However, fully expect this side to be among the top contenders the rest of the way. Mark your calendars for the #rivalryweek "Hell is Real" derby versus the Crew on May 17. That should be a real humdinger.

MLS game of the week: Vancouver Whitecaps FC vs. Los Angeles FC

"Sunday Night Soccer" provides a doozy this week, as the league-leading Vancouver Whitecaps host a surging Los Angeles FC at BC Place.

The Whitecaps have been a revelation in 2025, and currently are on pace to set a single-season points record (Inter Miami has the record with 74; Vancouver's 2.36 points-per-game pace sets them on course for an astonishing 80). LAFC is unbeaten in its four games since getting ousted from the Concacaf Champions Cup.

Where can you watch MLS games?

All Major League Soccer games air on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV. Some select games are available for free on Apple TV and viewers only need an Apple ID to watch.

In a major push to reach more viewers this season, Comcast Xfinity and DirecTV customers can subscribe and watch MLS Season Pass through the TV providers, while T-Mobile users will be able to access MLS Season Pass for free.

FOX Sports will air select games on linear television.
