The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup knockout round begins Saturday, with Chelsea and Benfica squaring off in a round of 16 contest between two European powers.

Chelsea, one of the Premier League's biggest clubs, have underwhelmed at the Club World Cup thus far. A perfunctory 2-0 win over MLS side LAFC got the Blues off and running, but a shock loss to Flamengo highlighted some vulnerabilities. Chelsea sealed a spot in the knockout rounds with a 3-0 win over Espérance Sportive de Tunis, but will need to step it up to keep going in this tournament.

Benfica exceeded expectations in the group stage. It nearly went wrong straight away, as the Portuguese power had to come from two goals down to secure a draw against Boca Juniors in Group C. However, since then Benfica has been flying, crushing Auckland City FC 6-0 before upsetting Bayern Munich 1-0 to claim first place in the group.
